Morzine

The ski resorts of Morzine and Avoriaz are in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps. The resort is the closest of the major alpine ski resorts to Geneva International Airport with a transfer time of between one and one and a half hours.

The traditional alpine town of Morzine is full of charm. Unlike many other ski resorts, Morzine is a town in its own right, with a life all year round after the skiers and the snow have disappeared. As a result you will find a full range of shops, bars, cafes, hotels and restaurants. The people of Morzine are particularly proud of the range of their restaurants, with prices and food to suit all tastes.

The vast skiing area around Morzine is divided into two main areas, each with its own appeal. The Morzine/Les Gets area is the traditional, ski area accessed from Morzine by the Télécabine du Pleney . This ski area is relatively gentle with many easy green, blue and red pistes plus a couple of black runs on the Nyon side. It is large and offers plenty of scope for a full and entertaining week of skiing.

On the other side of Les Gets is Mount Cheny. This area is suitable for all levels of skier, and is accessed by a small electric train which is free. It is large, and quite sheltered in bad weather. The ski passes are cheaper, and there are plenty of great places to eat on the piste! On the down side it is less challenging for the expert skier in search of thrills, and at times there is less snow on the lower slopes, above all at the end of the season.

Avoriaz was developed by the town of Morzine to broaden the resort's appeal to the more demanding skier and to overcome Morzine's lack of height and thus guaranteed snow. The village is car free - all transport is provided by horse drawn taxis which really adds fun to the holiday! The skiing is vast and one can ski over the largest ski area in the world.

Some of the features include the Swiss Wall - a frightening near vertical off piste slope, the World Cup downhill run and the famous Tour des Portes du Soleil, which is a wonderful and complete day’s non stop skiing in France and in Switzerland covering 80 km of piste. You, can do this alone or with the assistance of a guide ,either way you will be filled with exhilaration and a great sense of achievement.

As principal holiday destination, ´The Ski Chalet Company´ is pleased to be able to offer its customers excellent availability, on all types of accommodation. If you specifically wish to visit these places, please email us with your requirements
